Cassian’s Trip to San Francisco

Cassian’s Trip to San Francisco

Packing for a three-day adventure with Cassian was a breeze. His food was stashed away, and we hit the road for the 6-hour drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco. About halfway through, we made a pit stop for lunch. I quickly realized his usual bowl was buried deep inside the suitcase, and laziness kicked in—I wasn’t about to dig it out. Improvising, I grabbed a cardboard bowl for his meal. Cassian, unfazed, finished his food in record time and was ready to get back on the road. For most of the trip, he slept curled up in the car’s center console cupholder, waking occasionally to hop between my lap and the passenger seat, trying to find the perfect nap spot.

After a few hours of peaceful driving, we stopped again to refuel and stretch. Cassian, now well-rested, eagerly explored the area, took a bathroom break, and then we were back on the road, making our way into the Bay Area. Our first stop was to visit my parents—Cassian’s new human grandparents. My mom adored him instantly, but my dad couldn’t quite get his name right. Cassian didn’t seem to mind, happily wagging his tail and charming everyone in sight.

The next day was dedicated to exploring San Francisco. We visited iconic spots like the Golden Gate Bridge and the famously crooked Lombard Street. Cassian enjoyed all the sights, but his favorite place was the park near the Golden Gate Bridge, where he was in his element—sniffing around, meeting new people, and absorbing the fresh ocean breeze. He seemed to enjoy every new smell and interaction, tail wagging furiously with every new friend he met.

When it came time for photos by the Golden Gate Bridge, Cassian’s mood took a nosedive. Despite the scenic backdrop, he was not in the mood to pose. His usual cheerful expression was replaced with an exaggerated frown, as if to say, “Enough with the pictures, let’s go back to the fun!” Despite his protests, the day was filled with great memories, with Cassian stealing the show wherever we went.
