The Start of a Beautiful Friendship
A Day with Cass Money
When I first decided to get a dog, I had already picked the perfect name. I’d imagined having a little girl dog, but life had other plans. The breeder I contacted only had boys left, and as soon as I saw the picture of one of the little guys, I knew he was the one for me. There was something about his eyes that caught my attention, and I couldn’t resist. I had to have him.
The trip to meet him was an adventure in itself, involving an hour-and-a-half drive, filled with anticipation. When I arrived, I found out he wasn’t old enough to leave his mother just yet. Though the breeder offered to let me take him home right then and there, I knew it wasn’t the right time. I was about to go on vacation, and he deserved to spend those crucial first weeks with his mother. So, I made the difficult decision to wait until I returned, knowing that by May 8th, when he turned two months old, he’d be ready to join me.
The day I got back from my trip, I didn’t waste a moment. I jumped into the car and made the familiar drive to pick up my new puppy. When I finally brought him home, I couldn’t help but laugh at how funny he looked. His big eyes and little paws made him the most adorable sight. But that first night, he didn’t think much of being alone. As soon as it was bedtime, the crying started. He wanted to be right next to me, but with his habit of peeing and pooping everywhere, the bed was out of the question. Into the crate he went, where he quickly developed two distinct cries—one that was sad and pleading, and another that was loud and demanding. If I didn’t respond to the first one within seconds, the second one would kick in, ensuring I was up and out of bed more times than I could count.
For two weeks straight, I barely slept, running on fumes as I navigated the exhausting world of puppy parenthood. I remember thinking, "If this is what it’s like to have a human child, I’m not sure I’m cut out for it!" Yet, no matter how tired I was, I brought him everywhere with me—even to work—because I knew he needed to go out every hour or two.
Looking back, those sleepless nights and constant potty breaks were just the beginning of our incredible journey together. As exhausting as it was, each moment helped us form a bond that only grew stronger over time. Cass Money, with his loud cries and funny little face, quickly became the center of my world, and I wouldn’t trade those early challenges for anything. They were just the first steps in a lifelong adventure, one filled with love, loyalty, and countless memories yet to come.
So, if you're thinking about bringing a new puppy into your life, remember that those early days are tough, but they set the stage for a relationship that's beyond rewarding. Stay patient, stay present, and before you know it, you'll have a companion who'll stick by your side through thick and thin, just like Cass Money has with me.
Until next time, keep those tails wagging and the treats coming!
